Introduction

The graphic expression of a product or medical device is one of the fundamental tools to transmit the idea to working teams, to set the product specifications, to be able to manufacture that product ...

In addition, graphic expression techniques must follow international standards to allow the correct interpretation of the drawing. The computer-aided design is a very powerful tool that has allowed to speed up the design work, allowing to work on 2D drawings, 3D models, error detection, performing assemblies...

Pre-course requirements

None.

Objectives

  • To develop the spatial conception of the student.
  • To develop products from the knowledge of basic forms and operations.
  • To present and practice the drawing and the regulations associated with the most common graphic representation in engineering and bioengineering.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • CB1 - Students must demonstrate that they have and understand knowledge in an area of study based on general secondary education. This knowledge should be of a level that, although based on advanced textbooks, also includes some of the cutting-edge elements from their field of study.
  • CB3 - Students must have the ability to bring together and interpret significant data (normally within their area of study) and to issue judgements that include a reflection on important issues that are social, scientific or ethical in nature.
  • CB5 - Students have developed the necessary learning skills to undertake subsequent studies with a high degree of autonomy.
  • CE3 - To apply fundamental knowledge on using and programming computers, operating systems, databases and IT programs to the field of Bioengineering.
  • CE4 - To have spatial vision and know how to apply graphic representations, using traditional methods of metric geometry and descriptive geometry, as well as through the application of computer-assisted design
  • CG6 - To apply the necessary legislation when exercising this profession.
  • CG9 - The ability to organise and plan in the field of business, as well as in institutions and organisations.
  • CT3 - To know how to communicate learning results to other people both verbally and in writing, and well as thought processes and decision-making; to participate in debates in each particular specialist areas.

Learning outcomes of the subject

At the end of the course, the student must be able to:

  • Know and implement the graphic language of the representation systems in Bioengineering.
  • Know and implement the applications of graphic expression and computer-aided drawing.
  • Demonstrate manual skills and/or using 3D software in drawing sketches, sketches and prototypes.
  • Be able to interpret industrial plans.
  • Be able to present the work in correctly done plans and universal interpretation.
  • Know and implement the teamwork mode and dynamics.

Teaching and learning activities

In person

The course combines sessions with a theoretical introduction followed by practical demonstrations. The course is complemented by individual work, small group work and autonomous work.

The theoretical classes aim to introduce students to the basic concepts of the discipline and give an instructive and informative character, giving a very practical approach, inviting reflection on the spatial conception and conceiving from basic forms and operations.

The autonomous learning process is also developed using the Moodle platform which includes various resources, such as questionnaires, group work, debates, proposed exercises, videos...

The group work is worked during the classes, answering questions proposed by the teacher that students should discuss and evaluate among equals, following the guidelines set for each exercise.

Classes will be taught in Spanish, although students' questions will be answered in the language of their choice (Spanish, Catalan or English). In addition, the student can choose to answer the exercises, assignments and exams in Spanish, Catalan or English. The teaching material will be mainly in Spanish, except for articles or graphics that may be in English.

Students may use calculator and form during exams. The form may only contain formulas, not explanations.

The list of ECTS credits and the workload in learning hours depending on the different methodologies that will be used. Each ECTS theoretical credit has 10 hours in which the teacher has a presence in the classroom. The rest of the hours up to 25 correspond to the load of directed and autonomous learning of the student. This last teaching load can be done through autonomous activities, group work that will be presented and defended in class or individual study necessary to achieve the learning objectives of the different subjects.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person

In first call:

Participation in class - 5%

Problem solving -20%

Partial exam - 25%

Final exam - 50%

In other calls: 75% of the exam and 25% of the other grades of the course (non-recoverable grade).

Important considerations:

1. Plagiarism, copying or any other action that may be considered cheating will be zero in that evaluation section. Cheating in the exams will mean the immediate suspension of the course.

2. In order to pass the course, a 5.0 needs to be achieved in the total calculation and a minimum grade of 4.5 in all valuable parts. If this grade is not reached, the corresponding section will have a zero to calculate the final grade for the course.

3. In the second-sitting exams, the maximum grade students will be able to obtain is "Excellent" (grade with honors distinction will not be possible).

4. Attendance to practical sessions is mandatory to pass the subject.

5. Exchange students (Erasmus and others) or repeaters will be subject to the same conditions as the rest of the students. This is especially relevant with regard to the calendar, exam dates and the evaluation system.
