Introduction

Although traditionally the clinical practice of Physiotherapy has been based on the opinion generated from clinical experience and basic research, today as a discipline in the process of scientific foundation, it is necessary to bring scientific evidence near to the clinical practice.

From a scientific perspective, it has been considered that in order to offer high-quality personalized attention, the manual physiotherapist must be able to interpret the scientific contributions that generate new intervention and research perspectives, as well as to apply the different scientific methodologies in construction. of knowledge. On the other hand, in response to the growing social demand for efficacy and effectiveness in health care, physiotherapists must not only be able to translate the results of scientific research into professional practice, but they must also intervene actively and in an useful way in the different stages of the scientific research processes.

With the aim of integrating these competences, this subject has been designed together with Biostatistics and the preparation of the Master's Final Project that will provide the student with the necessary knowledge to expand their scientific knowledge related to Manual Orthopedic Physiotherapy.

Objectives

  1. Propose research hypotheses appropriate to the different levels of knowledge using bibliographic and experimental antecedents.
  2. Determine the methodologies and research designs appropriate to the hypothesis raised.
  3. Use information and communication technologies as a support.
  4. Use in an adequate, autonomous and critical way the resources for the management of scientific information.
  5. Plan, control and evaluate the information search process in the field of Physiotherapy and the like, using scientific evidence.
  6. Transmit with scientifically correct terminology the information obtained, both orally and in writing.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

Basic and general competencies:

  • CB6: Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and / or application of ideas, often in a research context.
  • CB9: That students know how to communicate their conclusions ¿and the knowledge and ultimate reasons that support them¿ to specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous way
  • CB10: That students possess the learning skills that allow them to continue studying in a way that will be largely self-directed or autonomous
  • CG4: That the students demonstrate an advanced level of communication skills that allow an effective evaluation and treatment of arthro-neuro-muscular dysfunctions.
  • CG5: That students demonstrate an advanced level of practical skills that allow a sensitive, specific and effective evaluation and treatment of arthro-neuro-muscular dysfunctions.

Transversal competencies:

  • CT2: Show communication skills in interpersonal relationships that result in enhancing the health status of the patient / user and the collaboration of the multidisciplinary team.

Specific competencies:

  • CE2: That the students know the indications, contraindications, precautions and effects of OMPT within the framework of the management of pain and dysfunction mechanisms of the arthro-neuro-muscular system.
  • CE6: That students are able to critically apply the processes of systematic clinical reasoning, hypothetical-deductive and pattern recognition in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the patient / client.

Learning outcomes of the subject

The student:

  • He is able to determine the appropriate research methodologies and designs for the hypothesis.
  • He presents his works with correct scientific terminology, within each of the specializations in a national and international context.
  • He demonstrates critical and self-evaluating ability in setting out research objectives and methodologies.
  • He is able to plan and establish a work schedule.
  • It uses information and communication technologies as a support.
  • Demonstrates ethical commitment in its approaches and methodological assessments.
  • Use in an adequate, autonomous and critical way the resources for the management of scientific information.
  • Plans, controls and evaluates the information search process in the field of Physiotherapy and the like, using scientific evidence.
  • Handles the terminology of the English language, related to the field of physiotherapy.
  • Understand and discriminate with scientific criteria the specific bibliography consulted.
  • Transmits the information obtained with scientifically correct terminology, both orally and in writing.

  • Managers of bibliographic references and bibliographic citation styles.
  • Bibliometric indices and impact factor.
  • Terminology, structures and specific linguistic skills related to research in the field of Orthopedic Manual Physiotherapy
  • Tools and assessment scales in Orthopedic Manual Physiotherapy. Validity and reliability of the measuring instrument.
