Introduction
The Practicum for the Degree in Law is a logical process of practical training that students must compulsorily carry out to complete their undergraduate studies.
The aim of this subject is to broaden and consolidate the knowledge acquired throughout the degree programme, as well as to focus on the use of the necessary tools for professional law practice. To meet these objectives, the Practicum offered are entirely external. Students are placed in various institutions (Registries, Notaries, State Lawyers, Legal Office of the Catalan government, etc.) where they put into practice the knowledge they have acquired.
The Institutional Practicum course is designed to introduce to the full scope of the professional legal environment and to the career options beyond the practice in law firms. The structure and design of this course is also geared to the normal pattern of the legal sector regarding the timing of the intake of professionals and candidates in internships.
The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of training and knowledge of real career opportunities in the legal sector.
Pre-course requirements
In order to take this subject, students must be in the last year of the Degree in Law, and have full availability in the morning.
For this reason, it is incompatible with the follow-up of subjects from the 3rd year of the Law Degree, or other courses, with exchange/Erasmus stays, as well as with the simultaneity of a double Degree program (Degree in Business Administration or Degree in Humanities).
Likewise, this subject is incompatible with the Court Practicum subject.
Therefore:
- Enrollment in practicum is incompatible if there are pending subjects from other courses.
- Enrollment in practicum is incompatible for students who carry out ERASMUS stays.
- Enrollment in an institutional practicum is incompatible with a judged practicum and vice versa.
- Enrollment will be carried out in order of registration until places are exhausted.
Objectives
The objectives of this subject are as follows:
• To allow students to gain an insight into real professional settings.
• To introduce the student to the legal problems of companies, institutions or individuals.
• To enhance the personal performance of law students through the reinforcement of the knowledge acquired throughout the academic programme and the development of the skills required to achieve a complete and comprehensive training.
• To encourage the critical and reflective capability of students, encouraging decision-making.
• To put into practice their ability to analyse and synthesise legal issues.
