Knowledge and critic evaluation of different periodontal factors that can interfere with the implant tratmient is essential.
Pre-course requirements
Besides the theoretical subjects Advanced Periodontology and Classic and Advanced Review of the literature.
Objectives
- To recognize the main considering factors in Periodontics-Implant treatment.
- Recognize the main risk factors related to periodontal - Implants treatment.
- Perform a logical analysis of the periodontal prognosis of their patients and how this might influence the implant treatment
Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme
- Comprehensive knowledge of the periimplant mucosa anatomy, this including the periimplant mucosa probing, and the dimensions of the papilla between implants and teeth, and between implants themselves.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the periimplant infection microbiology.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the occlusal trauma effects upon the periimplant tissues.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the periimplant mucositis and periimplantitis. Knowledge of the possible risk factors to develope periimplantitis and the possible mechanisms to susceptibility in periimplantitis.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Implant treatment planning in the periodontal patient.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the periimplant lesion treatment options. Knowledge of the reosseointegration phenomenon.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the mucogingival periimplant surgical procedures.
Learning outcomes of the subject
The student will be able to implement the studied objectives under different clinical situations, identifying the characteristics and specific needs of each case .
Syllabus
The course is developed on the basis of clinical presentation to be treated by students, must submit a complete treatment plan and possible risk factors associated cases.
Teaching and learning activities
In person
Each week a student must present at least one finished case treated in the university clinic. Characteristics and pre-treatment conditions, surgical technique and results will be discussed. All possible interactions with other areas will aso be discussed.
Evaluation systems and criteria
In person
Attendance and continous evaluation based on the presented cases.
