United Kingdom ECSA has new President

Dr. Helen Drake, Senior Lecturer in French and European Studies at the University of Loughborough, has recently been elected as Chair of UACES (University Association for Contemporary European Studies), in such a way she succeeds Prof. Richard Whitman, from the School of Politics and International Relations of University of Kent.

The election took place in April during the UACES 42nd annual conference at University of Passau, Germany.

Dr. Drake
studied Linguistic and International Studies at Surrey University and obtained
the MSc in European Management at Cranfield Institute of Technology. Her PhD,
in political science, is from Aston University. Since September 2010 she is co-convenor, with Alistair
Cole of Cardiff  University, of the Political
Studies Association (PSA) Specialist Group
for French Politics, Policy and Society, and in
August 2010 she was named a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques by
the French  government. Her current research projects include Franco-British migration and also the
relations between France and the European
Union.

The predecessor of UACES’s chair, Richard G Whitman, is Professor of Politics and International
Relations at the School of Politics and International Relations and he was
Professor of European Studies at the University of Westminster.
