Introduction

With a view to fostering dissemination among doctoral students, the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE), through its Network of Dissemination and Scientific Culture (RedDivulga), is opening a call for the second “Your doctoral thesis on a Twitter thread: #HiloTesis” competition, for the second consecutive year. Participants will be tasked with explaining their doctoral thesis in a thread of no more than 20 tweets, adhering to the limitations and taking advantage of all the opportunities offered by Twitter.

Objective

The aim is for researchers who are in training or undertaking their doctoral studies, who are currently writing their doctoral thesis or who have completed it within the last six months, to explain to the general public what they are doing and how and why they are doing it. The idea is to create a Twitter thread that uses this social network and the opportunities it offers as a communication channel, adapting the content of the thesis using simple, accessible and attractive language.

Requirements

Any UIC Barcelona doctoral candidate from any programme can participate. It will be mandatory to have satisfactorily passed at least one evaluation listed in the Activities Report (DAD) and Research Plan (CED), or to have defended their Doctoral Thesis within a maximum of six months prior to the date of start of the competition. Submissions from participants who do not meet these conditions will be disqualified.

Participants must explain the content of their thesis in a maximum of 20 tweets, taking into account the limitations of this social media network. They may write in any of the co-official languages.

Registration

Once the thread has been published, the following form must be completed in order to be entered into the competition: Link to form. Within the competition deadline that ends at 11.59 p.m. on 30 April 2022.

Once you have filled in the CRUE form, you must fill in the UIC Barcelona form: Link to form.

It is important to note that applications must have been approved by the thesis supervisor and the information provided in the thread, links, etc. must be able to be publicly disseminated. If the research is linked to a confidentiality agreement, participants must contrast the content used in the competition with the parties involved.

Neither UIC Barcelona nor the CRUE shall be liable for any infringements that may result from non-compliance.
