Audiovisual Communication student Nicolau Huistra, winner of the 1st Video Contest on the Family

Student Nicolau Huistra Puig, a third year student in Audiovisual Communication at UIC Barcelona, has won the first Video Contest on the Family, organised by Family Global Compact Barcelona, after presenting an emotional video in vertical format entitled Mi familia (My family).

A panel made up of university lecturers positively evaluated the message and the script of the video. Bishop David Abadias presented the prizes at a ceremony held at the Episcopal Palace of Barcelona, attended by the dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Pedro Sigaud Sellos.

"The Faculty encourages students to take part in these initiatives so that their work is visible from the first years of their studies," says the dean of the Faculty. Furthermore, according to Sigaud, this competition is aligned with the values of UIC Barcelona and seeks to have a positive impact on society.

Student Nicolau Huistra’s video refers to the WhatsApp group he shares with his parents and three siblings. Despite being spread out across the world, this digital space has become a family photo album, a portrait of each member’s lives, and just a click away from being able to interact with a call. “I wanted to convey the unity I have with my family, and that in times like Christmas, we have the opportunity to meet and share special moments,” explains the winner of the award.

This award is the result of collaboration between the Institute for Advanced Family Studies (IESF) of UIC Barcelona and the diocesan secretariat of family ministry in Barcelona, which meets regularly through the Mesa Family Global Compact with the five Christian universities in Catalonia.

The video competition on family is one of the initiatives that has been launched, but the secretariat’s management hopes to develop more proposals in the future. “This is the result of a dream. To be able to work together with the universities in favour of family values,’ said Emili Puñet, director of the diocesan secretariat for family ministry.

IESF director Montserrat Gas announced a new joint project with Family Global Compact: “UIC Barcelona will host a Bioethics Conference in November 2025,” explained the director of the Institute. The Institute for Advance Studies is the first university institute in Spain whose main objective is family policies, with activities related to research, teaching, dissemination and advice to public and private entities.

Family Global Compact, a shared programme of actions to promote the family in the world and the development of the human person, in the light of the social doctrine of the Church, organised this competition to highlight the talent of young university students who believe in the importance of the family.
