Introduction

This subject addresses the main tools and strategies needed to design, implement and manage effective business models in competitive environments. In the field of dental management, this subject is especially relevant, as it allows professionals in the sector to optimize clinic administration, improve patient experience and ensure the financial sustainability of their practices.

Through the analysis of practical cases and the development of strategic skills, students acquire key knowledge to identify growth opportunities, establish competitive advantages and align business objectives with the demands of the dental sector. This course combines theory and practice to prepare future leaders in the effective management of oral health services.

Pre-course requirements

The student must be admited into the Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Creation of a Dental Clinic, and be up to date with the assistance of the corresponding modules.

Have a degree related to Dentistry, preferably a Bachelor's degree in Dentistry. This postgraduate course can also be accessed by people with other degrees related to Dentistry, such as a degree or higher degree in dental prosthetics or a degree in oral hygiene.

On the other hand, this postgraduate course is also open to people who have degrees not related to Dentistry, but who show an interest or experience in the dental world. In this group you can find people with degrees in psychology, marketing, accounting, entrepreneurship, administrative managers, business leadership, nursing, among others.

Objectives

Introduce the main concepts and tools to implement strategic management as a work philosophy

in the clinic and be able to develop the individual postgraduate final project.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

-Know the concepts of management and dental management.

-Know the importance, benefits and disadvantages of business management.

-Define and differentiate the different models of dental clinics.

-Evaluate the benefits and disadvantages of each model of dental clinic.

-Know the objectives and responsibilities of the director of the dental clinic.

-Have a good knowledge of the business pyramid, each section, functions and responsibilities.

-Know how to create a work organization chart, with its sections, managers and tasks to be carried out.

-Know the types of existing managers

-Know the basic concepts of business leadership

-Know the importance and techniques of effective communication.

-Know perfectly how to do a market study, its importance and application

Syllabus

- Historical perspective of the profession and analysis of the current market situation 

- Dental clinic models.

- Introduction to dental clinic management: concept, skills, functions and organization.

- Methodology and tools for the implementation of strategic management.

- Marketing of services adapted to the dental clinic: external and internal marketing.

- Definition of the value proposition of the dental clinic.

- Strategies and tools to attract and retain new clients

- Tools to increase customer satisfaction

- Market research: concept and tools for conducting market research.

- Practical activity of individual market research.

- Description and guidelines for the development of the Final Postgraduate Project and the final oral presentation.

- Basic requirements for infrastructures adapted to the dental business model.

- How to get the most out of our business space.

- Design and planning of spaces to improve business performance

- Practical part: analysis and implementation of improvements to our work center

Teaching and learning activities

In person



Interactive master classes with students, teaching theoretical knowledge in a schematic way and with great iconographic content. The classes will be based on explanations and practical exercises on the concepts and real situations explained.
Time will be allocated between the concepts for questions, clarification or expansion of concepts that the student may need (as a small seminar), in order to deepen the practical content of the explanations and allow student interaction.

The information transmitted will be complemented with the carrying out of practical exercises during the sessions.

Evaluation systems and criteria

In person



Continuous evaluation and examination of the subject matter.

The evaluation is divided into two parts:

A. THEORETICAL PART: The theoretical contingut of the subject will encompass the information transmitted during the classes completed with the contingut of the bibliography recommended for each topic.

The final theoretical exam will consist of 25 multiple-answer questions, 4 possible answers, with a single valid answer. An error in answering a question will deduct 0.25 points.

Furthermore, there will be 5 to 10 short answer questions.

The theoretical final grade is 5% complementary to proof of class attendance, participation and student responses.

B. PRACTICAL PART: The preparation and presentation of the market study work will be evaluated.
