Introduction

In recent years, the field of Dentistry has evolved dramatically; therefore, knowledge and updating in this area are almost essential to be able to perform high-quality dentistry.

This program is intended for those professionals, generalists or specialists, who want to expand their knowledge in the field of Dentistry. The advantage of this program is that it combines theoretical sessions with in vitro practices with the materials and techniques that are explained.

During the practical part, there are always a minimum of two teachers present, so they become very supervised and individualized practices.

The program offers an advanced view of sedation using nitrous oxide in dentistry, as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but it also reviews concepts of clinical pharmacology of medical gases and carries out practices in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, handling of defibrillators and handling of conscious sedation equipment with nitrous oxide. The nitrous oxide sedation course aims to help students make a leap in quality in their treatments, and to be able to safely face treatments.

Pre-course requirements

Be a dentist or stomatologist or a student who is taking a postgraduate program at the UIC

Objectives

  • Update current knowledge on conscious sedation.
  • Know how to plan treatments using nitrous oxide sedation.
  • Describe the basic components of inhalation sedation equipment.
  • Analyze the function of each of the components.
  • Know and analyze the application techniques of nitrous oxide sedation, indications and contraindications.
  • Know, prevent and treat complications associated with inhalation sedation.
  • Update knowledge in pharmacology applied to sedation
  • Know cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Know how to use an AED
  • Know and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of inhalation sedation.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

- The program on Conscious Sedation with Nitrous Oxide in Dental Practice provides an update of knowledge, techniques and action protocols following the latest trends in this field

- The student progresses and makes a leap in quality in his dental treatments. As it is a theoretical-practical course, the student will practice under the constant supervision of a teacher. This fact allows the student to compare and see which techniques are best for dealing with cases of greater complexity.

- Once the course is completed, the student will be able to deal with most treatments that allow sedation with this technique.

Learning outcomes of the subject

- Updating knowledge, techniques and action protocols following the latest trends in this field
- The student will be able to compare and see which techniques are best for dealing with more complex cases.
- Ability to deal with the majority of treatments that allow sedation with this technique.

All theory will be online synchronously
Practice will be in person

Evaluation systems and criteria

In blended

To obtain the Certificate of the Catalan Council of Ressuscitation, the following will be carried out:
A written evaluation test

To obtain the FC Title in conscious sedation, the following will be carried out:
A multiple choice test with 20 questions with 5 answers and only one correct. Passing is considered successful with 15 points
