Introduction

Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is the area of Dentistry that deals
with the supervision, guidance and correction of the growth and maturation of
the craniofacial structures. The main responsibilities of orthodontic practice
include the diagnosis, prevention, interception and treatment of occlusal
abnormalities and associated bone and soft tissue disorders.
The Orthodontist must supervise the guidance of the dentition and the
relationship between its supporting structures to achieve and maintain
harmonious relationships between the face and the cranial structures that
provide the patient with optimal dento-facial physiology and aesthetics.
The Orthodontic Techniques subject focuses on the description of orthodontic
appliances, both fixed and removable, their theoretical knowledge and learning
how to use them.
