Communication will be done through the dedicated space on the intranet.

Personal attention outside the classroom is done by appointment by e-mail.

The tutorials concerning doubts will be requested by e-mail to the teacher. Once the time for tutorials has been set, they will be carried out in person or online.

Introduction

Within the Degree in Architecture there are 6 ECTS (equivalent to 180 hours of work) of internships in professional offices or companies related to the world of construction.

Given the practical load of the Degree in Architecture, it is very important the period of these practices in which the student faces his first professional experiences.

The internships are another means of training the student in terms of knowledge and skills and are carried out under the protection of an agreement with the firm or company, with the supervision and monitoring of the University and a representative of the firm or company. They are regulated by the Internal regulations of the UIC

Even though it is a 5th year course, if the student wants to take advantage of vacation periods to do the internship or during a course in which he/she has enrolled in fewer subjects, he/she may do it once he/she has passed 180 ECTS of the degree, always with the support of the University through an agreement.

If you have not done it before, when you reach 5th year, you will have to register the corresponding ECTS and do them within the course.

Pre-course requirements

The student must have a minimum knowledge of the profession to get as much from an internship opportunity as might be expected.

Essential: Prior to a period of internship beginning, it must be verified that the University and the Office have an "Internship agreement".

Objectives

The purpose of these internships is to apply the theoretical concepts learned in the Architecture Degree course and to initiate students to professional reality, an experience that will help towards their future inclusion in the workforce.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

  • 03 - To acquire adequate knowledge of spatial representation systems applied to architecture and urbanism .
  • 06 - To acquire adequate knowledge of graphic surveying techniques in all stages, from sketching to scientific restitution.
  • 13-T - Ability to conceive, calculate, design, integrate in buildings and urban complexes, and execute interior partition systems, carpentry, staircases and other finished works.
  • 17 - Ability to apply building and technical standards
  • 1-T - Ability to apply graphic procedures to the representation of spaces and objects.
  • 20 - Ability to evaluate works
  • 22 - Ability to plan building and urban installations for the transformation and supply of electricity, telecommunications systems, acoustic conditioning systems and artificial lighting.
  • 25 - To acquire adequate knowledge of conventional building systems and their pathology
  • 27 - To acquire adequate knowledge of industrialised building systems.
  • 2-T - Ability to conceive and represent the visual attributes of objects and master the proportions and techniques of drawing, including digital forms
  • 31 - To acquire knowledge of measurement, valuation and expert appraisal methods.

  • 36-T - Ability to plan, practice and develop construction management.
  • 37 - Ability to develop functional programmes for buildings and urban spaces.

  • 44-T - Ability to produce civil works projects.
  • 45-T - Ability to design and execute roads and urban development, gardening and landscaping projects
  • 46 - Ability to apply urban planning ordinances and standards.
  • 58 - To acquire adequate knowledge of the methodological principles of urban planning and metropolitan and regional development.
  • 60 - To acquire knowledge of civil, administrative, urban planning, building and professional regulations.
  • 63 - Ability to conceive, put into practice and develop architectural and urban planning projects adapting with new times.

Learning outcomes of the subject

The end result of the internship will be that students will have had the opportunity to apply the knowledge and academic content to the work undertaken.

Also, this period will have served as an introduction to the reality of professional life, enabling the development of a range of skills and abilities that will assist with future integration into the workforce.

Syllabus

The main objective of the internship is to introduce students to professional reality. This contact with the professional world will be reflected in a document in which the student must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competences acquired.

At the end of internship, the student must submit a written report.

In this report the student must demonstrate knowledge about:

The professional office or firm: the field in which they secure their projects.

Details of the tasks performed.

Analysis of internal processes that take place in the practical execution of a project.

A critical and constructive analysis of the work performed, doing a self-evaluation of the degree of personal development acquired in different aptitudes.

This course is assessed at the end of the 1r. semester, according to criteria of qualitative and quantitative:

  • Management agreement and delivery of documents, 
  • Assessment Office and tutor 
  • Memory Assessment practices.
