Professional experience
Biologist, PhD in Genetics, with knowledge in genetics and molecular biology of the cell cycle, DNA damage, epigenetic regulation and inheritance of histones as well as post-transcriptional regulation mediated by RNA binding proteins. During my research I have gained experience with different animal models including mammalian cell culture, nematodes (C. elegans) and fission yeast (S. pombe). On the technical side, I have expertise in methods of molecular biology (e.g. cloning, PCR, qRT-PCR, Western Blotting, sequencing, RNAi and CRISPR/Cas9), cell biology (e.g. generation of transgenics, reporter genes, smFISH, and Immunofluorescence), microscopy (e.g. confocal, high resolution), as well as genomic techniques such as RNAseq and analysis of protein complexes (including protein purification and proteomics by mass spectrometry).
Teaching and mentoring, both in the lab and the classroom, have been paramount in my formation as researcher.
As mentor I have worked with multiple students at all levels: high-school, undergrad and graduate. In the classroom I had experience as Teaching Assistant and Lecturer in Molecular and Cell Biology classes at the graduate level. My teaching philosophy is based on problems and experimental approaches with emphasis in scientific, environmental and health challenges that motivate the students to understand the concepts.
