GRC- Sustainable Urban Living
Current neoliberal socio-economic development puts pressure on ecosystems, climate and population, and poses adaptability challenges for our urban systems. In this context, the group is focussing on three areas:
- “Sustainable recovery and displacement” responds to climate change and disasters, migration and displacement. Participatory methodologies are used to enhance community resilience and generate locally-based urban integration, reconstruction and improvement.
- “Community Urbanism” uses qualitative GIS and social mapping to focus on the following: community-based river management (citizen use and perception, citizen-based river groups, citizen science); characterisation of environmental volunteering; healthy ageing and coproduction of public space.
- “Urban and regional resilience toward sustainability”, this area explores the implementation of the concept of resilience as a set of adaptive and transformative capabilities that improve self-sufficiency and sustainability.
