GRC - End of Life Care
2021 SGR 01379
End-of-life care for patients is a multidisciplinary research team, including researchers from medicine, nursing, psychology and humanities. The group studies suffering among people with advanced diseases, particularly the wish to hasten death. Our approach is eminently clinical. In recent years, we have tried to respond to some of the most pressing questions related to this phenomenon. Our approach is multidimensional (including physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects) since it aims to cover patients, family members and professionals.
Our group has contributed to improving:
- The comprehension and conceptualisation of the wish to hasten death
- Its detection and evaluation
- The identification and better understanding of certain related factors.
Over the past 5 years, the team has generated close to thirty joint indexed articles published on JCR. It has also received funding for six competitive projects and set up a company-sponsored chair (WeCare: ICO-Altima-UIC)
In the next few years, without giving up previous activities, we will progress towards:
- Prevention strategies and tackling suffering at the end of life.
- Methodologies to evaluate suffering and the wish to hasten death in regular clinical practice.
- Training and learning models in this material for healthcare professionals.
