BioBabes: “Bioreactors in Architectural Systems”

Master’s Degree in Biodigital Architecture Online lecture

On 15 March, at 2 p.m., Thora H Arnardottir and Jessica Dias, members of the BioBabes international biodesigners collective, will give an online talk entitled “Bioreactors in Architectural Systems” as part of the Master's Degree in Biodigital Architecture taught at the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture. Specifically, this activity forms part of the “Bioactive Design: Biological processes in architecture” workshop run by assistant lecturer Dr Yomna Abdallah.

During their talk, BioBabes will address the design and implementation of bioreactors as self-sufficient systems in biodesign and sustainable architecture, as they have different ecological functions such as renewable energy production, bioproducts or food.

The members of BioBabes define themselves as an international collective of feminist biodesigners, makers and biohackers committed to the design of better futures. Since its inception in 2015, this collective has developed important innovations related to the emerging field of biofabrication. The collective is currently set up as a creative bio-centred research, design and biofabrication consultancy studio with a cross-disciplinary approach.

Language: English.
