Fifth Annual Spring Research Seminar

Institute for Multilingualism Barcelona Campus. Auditorium.

Every spring since the 2014-2015 academic year, the Institute for Multilingualism has organised a research seminar that takes place on-site at UIC Barcelona. Its main objective is to disseminate the work being carried out by researchers at the Institute and exchange research interests related to applied linguistics and multilingual education with lecturers from other universities and other faculties at UIC Barcelona.

Each year other universities take part, such as the University of Barcelona, the Pompeu Fabra University, the University of Navarra and Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (University of the Basque Country).

The research carried out at the Institute for Multilingualism is namely concerned with analysing foreign language learning environments. We are primarily interested in the differences between English Medium Instruction (EMI) at universities, focusing solely on content, not language, and Integrated Content and Language in Higher Education (ICL-HE). The individuals involved in these processes, and therefore the focus of our research, are lecturers and students. In other words, we ensure and analyse the linguistic preparation of lecturers who teach in English, investigate the interaction between language and content teachers and study the students' language and content learning in the above-mentioned environments.
