Foros 2021 | Dalila Rodrigues: “Ex situ: exhibiting art and architecture”
On 10 March, Portuguese art historian Dalila Rodrigues will take part in the Foros series with an online lecture entitled “Ex situ: exhibiting art and architecture”.
Dalila Rodrigues is currently the director of the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belém Tower in Lisbon. Her extensive experience managing several museums and art centres in Portugal is impressive, having directed the Grão Vasco National Museum, the National Museum of Ancient Art and the Casa das Historias Paula Rego. She also teaches as a visiting lecturer at the University of Coimbra College of Arts, she is a researcher at the Research Centre in Archaeology, Arts and Heritage Sciences (CEAACP) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.
“Exhibiting works of art as ex situ heritage –taken out of their original visual setting and context– raises questions that should be analysed from the fields of both art history and architecture. Museology, a meeting ground for various disciplines that contribute to establishing good conservation practices, cannot substitute the diligent dialogue between art historians and architects. By exhibiting projects carried out over the past two decades, I will take this opportunity to share a series of reflections and present some solutions, largely as a result of the work of the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura,” she says.
Under the title “Expectations”, Foros 2021 will open the floor to discussions on the reconstruction projects that have emerged as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, across all areas of society, with a particular focus on architecture and urban planning.
