Foros 2022 | Environmental commitment
On 23 March, the next lecture in the Foros series, held at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, will be held under the title “Environmental commitment”. The event will be hosted by architects Bruno Sauer and Andrés Perea, who will explore the emergence of environmental challenges in urban and architectural practice and the adaptation of the sector toward a sustainable model. The session will be moderated by the director of the School's Sustainability Area, lecturer Felipe Pich-Aguilera.
Bruno Sauer is an architect at the Antwerp School of Architecture (Belgium) and currently serves as general director of the Green Building Council Spain (GBCe), the leading national organisation on sustainable building. He also serves as vice president of CPEA-Climate Positive Europe Alliance. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the World GBC-World Green Building Council and a founding member of the European think tank G17 and the international Building Sense Now movement. He is also a founding partner of Bipolaire Arquitectos, a studio focused on applied research in the field of the adaptation of public space to climate change. In terms of teaching, he has been an associate professor at the UPV-Valencia and the Universidad Europea de Valencia and is the author of numerous publications in the field of sustainable construction.
Andrés Perea is an architect at the School of Architecture of Madrid in which he currently works as an Ad Honorem lecturer. He also teaches at other universities and agencies within and outside Spain. At a professional level, he has worked on a vast range of national and international architectural projects, including the Rafael Alberti Public Library in Madrid, administrative buildings for regional governments, buildings for the Spanish Electricity Grid, the new La Palma Airport (together with R. Torrelo) and the Spanish Embassy in Rabat. Over the course of his career, he has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Quality Award from the Community of Madrid for the construction of 154 homes in Parque Loranca – Ciudad Jardín; the Urban Planning, Architecture and Public Works Award from Madrid City Council for the Rafael Alberti Library, and the Sol-Thermic Award for research.
Foros is an annual series of lectures on architecture and urban planning, which this year is held under the title “The leap into the void”. This new series calls for self-awareness regarding architecture today in its different aspects and fields of application. As a new feature, the lecture series is introducing a new format based on a two-way dialogue between professionals from the sector who will partake in sessions structured by themes linked to current architectural practice and the challenges facing the sector.
