This year in celebration of Modernism Day (8 June), the Faculty of Humanities and Cases Singulars will present “La mansana de la discòrdia: five architects, five clients, five renovations.”

Judith Urbano, dean of the Faculty of Humanities, will explain why this title is given to the group of houses in the Eixample district, which includes: Casa Lleó i Morera by Domènech i Montaner; Casa Mulleras by Enric Sagnier; Casa Bonet de Marcel Coquillat, Casa Amatller by Josep Puig i Cadafalch; and Casa Batlló by Antoni Gaudí. The five buildings were renovations of existing houses that had been built by master builders of the city. Urbano will also talk about who owned the buildings before and after these renovations. Using these very different houses, we will review 19th century architecture and its styles.

The lecture by Dr Judith Urbano will take place onsite in the Aula Beta 501 classroom and in online format. A few days before the lecture, attendees will receive the link to join the lecture.
