Online seminars: “Family policies and children’s rights in times of COVID-19”

We’re celebrating the International Day of Families and therefore, the Childcare and Family Policies Chair (Childcare and Family Policies Chair), an initiative launched by the Institute of Advanced Family Studies (IESF) who works in collaboration with the Joaquim Molins Figueras Foundation, has organised a series of online seminars.

“Family policies and children’s rights in times of COVID-19”

The outbreak of COVID-19, far from placing society on a level playing field, has generated significant inequalities in terms of social class and age groups. On the International Day of Families, two of these groups merit discussion, on either end of the life cycle: children and the elderly.  Little has been said about them and their rights, although over the past few weeks people are starting to speak out regarding the quality of life they deserve.  

 

As such, there have been two main branches of debate: children’s right to go outside, take a walk, breathe fresh air and the right to continue their education. However, many other questions still remain unanswered. That’s why, we want to dedicate this day to focusing especially on children’s rights in times of COVID-19.

Ricardo Ibarra. Director of the Spanish Children’s Rights Coalition, where he was elected by the Board of Directors of the Spanish Children’s Rights Coalition and unanimously ratified by the General Assembly on 28 April 2015.  Ricardo Ibarra was formerly the chairperson for the National Youth Council of Aragon and president of the 13th and 14th Permanent Committee of the Spanish National Youth Council. He was elected as Chairman of the Spanish National Youth Council the Ordinary General Assembly that took place in Zaragoza on 10 and 11 July 2010.  He was re-elected in the 18th Ordinary General Assembly that took place in Leganés on 13, 14 and 15 July in 2012.

Clara Martínez. Associate professor in the Faculty of Law (ICADE) in the Department of Public Law. She currently teaches Administrative Law and Foundations of Public Law at CIHS. Clara Martinez graduated from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (1992), she is a corporate legal adviser and holds a Master's in Telecommunications Law (1999), in addition to a PhD gained in 2000 from the Universidad de Comillas.  Since 2011, she has been the director of the Santander Chair on the Rights of the Child, to which she has belonged since its constitution as a research group in 2002.
