“Living the facade.” Architecture students explore the possibilities of modular facade systems for residential buildings.

More than 10 million homes built between 1960 and 2000, organised in large series of blocks, await a new facade that will revitalise the architectural space and give them a new conceptual dimension. In addition, technological advances allow us to approach the new paradigm of nZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) through strategies for the integration of active and passive systems.

The UIC Barcelona School of Architecture wants to explore constructive solutions for these spaces.

The academic year begins with the Vertical Workshop. Second- to fifth- year students will develop a project, entitled “Life on the facade”, with the objective of defining a modular facade system, its industrialised manufacturing process and its thermal and energetic behaviour.

The workshop will be completed with lectures for students by leading architects.
