Virtual tour of Basilica San Giovanni in Laterano (Rome)

UIC Barcelona School of Architecture Visita virtual

The director of the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, Josep Lluís i Ginovart, will give a virtual tour of a basilica in Rome on 29, 30 and 31 March that will be open to the public. The tour consists of three open sessions and will be eminently informative.

“In these three sessions, we will cover the city of Rome and, in particular, its originally named Archibasilica Sanctissimi Salvatoris, defined as Omnium urbis et orbis ecclesiarum mater et caput, that is, the mother and head of all the churches of the Italian capital, consecrated on 9 November, 324 A.D. It will involve an informative virtual tour of the building, which will look at the symbolism of its construction. It is fundamental to understand, first of all, what this first basilica contains in terms of its importance for the traditions of Christian Humanism. On the other hand, between its walls this space demonstrates a living evolution from the times of Constantine to the present day and it has been touched by key figures from the History of Art. I will talk about intervention in terms of architectural heritage starting from the complexity of a space that accumulates basic elements that touch on our sensitivities in western culture,” said Josep Lluis i Ginovart.
