The 7th edition of the Postgraduate Degree in Accessibility and Design for All at the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture is launched
In October the 7th edition of the Postgraduate Degree in Accessibility and Design for All at the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture will be launched, with support from the ADECCO Foundation, Válida sin Barreras and Puntodis.
In a society which has reached a historic high in terms of ageing, and in which close to 30% of the population have reduced mobility and/or communication problems, the market increasingly demands companies and professionals who can provide a response to the accessibility needs people have as well as solutions to ensure they maintain a good quality of life.
The Postgraduate Degree in Accessibility and Design for All will allow students to become experts in this area so that the same opportunities can be offered to all citizens, applying what is called unseen accessibility, based on normalised criteria and design for regular use by all.
According to Enrique Rovira-Beleta, director of the Postgraduate degree: “The aim is to ensure that students can understand, identify, design and commercialise accessible design for all, in such a way that our cities, buildings, housing, methods of transport and communication services are more comfortable and safe for all citizens. Particularly in the case of people with reduced mobility and/or communication problems, while also based on a design that can be normalised for everyone”.
This is the first formal academic initiative that looks at accessibility from an overall perspective, and via this new type of course which will be taught online in real time, the course can be taken from anywhere in the world. This means that interaction with professors and lecturers and with classmates will take place via videoconferences.
The registration period is now open and will end on 28 September 2017.
