The Salud y Persona Foundation and UIC Barcelona commit to mental health in a project aimed at people close to retirement

The two institutions have signed a new agreement to develop the Retirement, Aging and Mental Health Project (JUBILO Project). This initiative promotes mental health in people close to retirement, reflecting the common commitment of both entities to the well-being of people.

The Salud y Persona Foundation has signed an agreement with the University to carry out a research project that will carry out psychoeducational interventions that offer strategies to promote mental health in people close to retirement age.

Currently, in Spain an average of 895 people retire daily, and most are unaware of the stress and risks that this new stage may entail. This initiative has been developed to face the threat and look after the mental health of this group in the hope that it will have a great social impact.

The signing of the agreement was attended by Javier Mirallas and Joan Piñol, president and general director, respectively, of the Salud y Persona Foundation, Alfonso Méndiz, rector of UIC Barcelona, as well as Dr María Fernández Capo, vice-dean of the Department of Basic Sciences and the Area of Psychology; Dr Iris Crespo of the Department of Psychology, and Juan Pablo Garrido, director of Corporate Development.

This new agreement is based on the accord signed between the two entities in February in 2022 with the objective of improving the psychological and emotional mental health of people. This collaboration has led to the creation of a set of scientific programmes, research projects and teaching activities in the field of psychological care and emotional health, among which the JUBILO Project stands out.

Salud y Persona Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the field of health and psychological and emotional well-being in organisations. This new agreement with UIC Barcelona is a strong boost in the innovative work at the base of the core idea of social commitment pursued by the University. The objective of the project to promote wellbeing and mental health in the population and to address ageing people as a group of particular vulnerability is perfectly aligned with the mission and values of both entities.
