Four UIC Barcelona professors awarded the Josep Trueta medals for merit in health care
Doctors Carles Blay, Carme Cabezas and Jaume Sellarés, lecturers on the University Master's Degree in Health Management, and lawyer Francesc José Maria, lecturer on the Patient Advocacy course, are among the list of professionals recognised with the prestigious award given by the Generalitat de Catalunya
The Palau de la Generalitat hosted on 4 December the ceremony of awarding these awards, where the four teachers of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of UIC Barcelona were honored with the prestigious Josep Trueta medals for health merit, awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia). These awards, created to recognise significant contributions in the field of health, highlight professional excellence and impact on improving the health system.
This year, the Josep Trueta Medal has been awarded, upon the proposal of the Catalan Minister of Health and with the agreement of the Government, to three lecturers on the Master's Degree in Health Management (MUGS) and one lecturer on the Patient Advocacy course, both directed by Dr Boi Ruiz. These include Dr Carles Blay, lecturer on the MUGS and specialist in family and community medicine; Dr Carme Cabezas, also a lecturer at the MUGS, noted for her leadership in public health, especially during the management of the COVID-19 pandemic and the vaccination process in Catalonia; Dr Jaume Sellarés, member of the CAU, lecturer on the MUGS and vice-president of the Barcelona College of Doctors, valued for his career in family and community medicine, as well as for his transformative work in the management of primary care services; and Francesc José Maria, lawyer and lecturer on the Patients Advocacy course, who has made a significant contribution to the field of bioethics and the development of health, social and health law policies.
The ceremony was chaired by Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat, and Olga Pané, Minister of Health, who highlighted the importance of the contributions made by the winners to the progress of healthcare in Catalonia.
These awards recognise the excellence, innovation and commitment of UIC Barcelona's teachers, values that are reflected in the University's training for professionals, such as the University Master's Degree in Health Management, and at patients and their representatives, such as the Patient Advocacy course.
