83 blood donations in the most recent campaign by the Blood and Tissue Bank at UIC Barcelona
As happens every semester, UIC Barcelona and the Blood Bank organised a blood donation campaign. More than 80 people donated, and a further 13 volunteered. 37 of the participants were first-time donors.
Last Monday, in the lobby on the Sant Cugat Campus and Saló de Graus on the Barcelona Campus, the Blood Bank set up a temporary centre where blood was collected throughout the morning. A total of 46 people in Barcelona and 37 in Sant Cugat volunteered to take part in this simple procedure which, over the course of the year, saves thousands of lives.
Every day 1,000 donations are needed in Catalonia alone, as one out of every ten thousand people admitted to hospital requires a transfusion or a constituent of our blood.
75% of the donations were from students. Many of those who volunteered had never donated before, and after seeing that "it was nothing" pledged to cooperate on future occasions and urge others to do the same.
