Adrián González awarded in 36th Annual scientific meeting of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology

Adrián González, along with members of the Evaluation Group of Health Determinants and Healthcare Policies, participated in the Spanish Epidemiology Society meeting held for the first time outside of Spain.

The Evaluation Group for Health Determinants and Healthcare Policies, led by Dr José M. Martínez, participated in the 36th Annual scientific meeting of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology held in Lisbon on 12, 13 and 14 September. Members of the group, Àurea Cartanyà, Adrián González, Nuria Matilla, Dr Juan Carlos Martín and Dr José M. Martínez presented different papers focusing on topics such as the evolution of mortality linked to lung and breast cancer in women, an estimation of the population at high risk of lung cancer in the European Union or workplace health, among other topics.

Of these submissions, the paper “Estimation of the population at high risk of developing lung cancer in the European Union” by Adrián González was awarded a prize for researchers taking part for the first time in the conference. In González’s own words, “being able to attend the annual meeting of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology has been an intense and very interesting experience due to the range of topics covered and being able to talk with experts in research areas similar to our own”. “Moreover, being awarded this prize has been the best possible recognition of our study. Our study showed that there is a high number of people in the European Union who are at high risk of developing lung cancer, a type of cancer largely associated with tobacco consumption.
