Alberto T. Estévez travels to Costa Rica to assess the School of Architecture at Veritas University

The lecturer at UIC Barcelona praised the implementation of digital manufacturing workshops in the Central American country

Alberto T. Estévez, lecturer and founder of UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, travelled on 9 September to Costa Rica at the invitation of SINAES – the Official Quality Agency in the country – to assess the School of Architecture at Veritas University, in the city of San José.

During his visit, which lasted until 17 September, Alberto T. Estévez was able to see with his own eyes that in Costa Rica “there are architecture schools emerging committed to using new digital technologies and which understand that architecture has to adapt to modern times by rolling out digital manufacturing workshops”.

The lecturer at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture has been an expert assessor for a number of Spanish and international quality agencies for over 15 years. His academic career began 35 years ago at the University of Vienna. In 1996, he founded the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, which he ran as director for its initial nine years. Over these past two decades, Alberto T. Estévez has founded two different research groups: Architectural Composition (History, Architecture and Design, 1998) and Architectural Projects (Genetic Architecture, 2000). Moreover, he helped draft the curriculum for bachelor’s, postgraduate and PhD programmes at the school. All of his experience in teaching and research was of help to him during his visit to Costa Rica.
