Architect Josep Miàs joins UIC Barcelona School of Architecture

The renowned architect will participate in the Final Degree Projects subject of final year students, acting as a project tutor and evaluation panel member

UIC Barcelona School of Architecture will incorporate the international architect Josep Miàs as a new lecturer in the Final Degree Projects subject. This incorporation strengthens the commitment of the School to offer an excellent education, combining innovation and professional experience in the field of architecture.

Josep Miàs, graduated from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB), has an outstanding career in both professional practice and teaching. He is currently professor of architectural practice at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL).

He worked with Enric Miralles over a decade, participating in emblematic projects such as the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh or the Santa Caterina Market in Barcelona. In 2000 he founded his own studio, MIAS Architects, internationally recognised for its innovative and experimental approach, which integrates advanced technology, sustainability and formal exploration into each project.

Miàs was recently named AIA Honorary Fellow 2024 by the American Institute of Architects, a recognition that highlights his contribution to global architecture.

Previously, the architect was deputy director of the School for two years, so this will be his second time at UIC Barcelona. “I am deeply grateful to the School for this opportunity, as it will allow me to delve into a new way of understanding the final phase of the students’ studies,” Miàs says. The new UIC Barcelona lecturer hopes “to be able to bring the work of the design laboratories of The Bartlett School of Architecture where architects, engineers and scientists share teaching. This is the future of architecture in which the architect is one more part of the conversation.”

The arrival of Miàs is a new impetus for UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, which continues its commitment to education that prepares its students to face the challenges of the future with creativity, rigour and a global vision.
