The UIC Barcelona School of Architecture will be present at the 16th edition of the Venice Biennale, which was inaugurated in the Italian city on 26 May. The Final Degree Projects submitted by students Lara Pérez, Cristina Coll, Carlota Aluja, Oriol Anglada and Marta Delgado were chosen to feature in the section “Schools in Venice” by the curator of the Catalan Pavilion. The five projects will be kept on display until 25 November, the day the exhibit officially closes. 

On 26 May, the students attended the event held to open the Catalan Pavilion alongside the academic coordinator of the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, lecturer Ana Cocho. “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to start their career exhibiting their Final Degree Projects at a major showcase like the Venice Biennale”, remarked Ana Cocho. 

The works selected explore the relationship between architectural spaces and nature, and the ability of these spaces to elicit emotions. Each project consists of 5 slides, which are shown digitally in the Venice exhibition space via a continuous loop projector. 

The topic of the works complements the Catalan installation at the Venice Biennale, entitled “RCR: Dream and Nature”, curated by UIC Barcelona School of Architecture lecturer Estel Ortega in cooperation with journalist Pati Núñez. Prominent in this year’s Catalan Pavilion is RCR Arquitectes, a team of Catalan architects and last year’s recipients of the Pritzker Award, whose exhibition focuses on the creative universe of the Olot-based studio and their intimate relationship with nature.
