Around forty UIC Barcelona physiotherapy students make up part of the recovery team at the eDreams Barcelona Half Marathon

38 second, third and fourth year students studying for the UIC Barcelona Degree in Physiotherapy made up part of the recovery team at the 27th edition of the eDreams Barcelona Half Marathon on Sunday 12 February. This year's event broke the record for participants with 17.700 people registered to take part, a fact that didn't go unnoticed in the recovery area.

Runners began arriving at the recovery area at 9.30 a.m. which operated through to 12.30 p.m. Students worked in pairs to treat the runners who were on the stretchers provided spending 10 minutes with each person. Treatments given were basically massages and stretches.

This is not the first year that UIC Barcelona has collaborated on the Half Marathon because, according to  Dr Caritat Bagur, head of the UIC Barcelona Physiotherapy Department, “it's good to take part, as the students can take advantage of a gratifying experience up close: they become familiar with a reality that other centres maybe don't tackle habitually, as they tend to treat runners at the precise moment they finish exercising. The Half Marathon prepares students to treat Marathon runners who get to the finishing line displaying other kinds of effects”.
