Centenary of the death of Bishop Torras i Bages
On Saturday 19 November the garden in Torres i Bages square in San Joan de les Abadesses was the location chosen to reveal a new statue of the Bishop of Vic. This year it has been a hundred years since his death. The sculpture was created by Francisco Fajula, who is from San Joan de les Abadesses.
Subsequently, in the Palau de la Abadía, the book entitled 'Torras i Bages. Home de l’eternitat. 1846-1916’ was presented by Xavier Baró. Dr Baró is a historian, co-author of the book and a professor in the Faculty of Humanities at UIC Barcelona. He was accompanied by Mr Emili Vendrell, General Director of Religous Affairs in the Catalan Government; the mayor of Sant Joan de les Abadesses, Mr Ramon Roqué; Monsignor Romà Casanova, Bishop of Vic; Mr Albert Piñeira, Vice-President of Girona Provincial Government and Monsignor David Cuidado, General Ecclesiastical Judge in the Vic Diocese.
A new edition of the pastoral letter "El Santísimo Misterio” was also presented at the same time. Professor Baró wrote a small introduction to this text.
