Condrado Aparicio, new vice rector of Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer
Since 1 September, Dr Conrado Aparicio is the new vice rector for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer at UIC Barcelona. He joins the University Governing Board and assumes the task of continuing to encourage the talent of UIC Barcelona researchers, promoting quality research, excellence and the transfer of knowledge to society
Conrado Aparicio is a training materials engineer. With extensive national and international teaching and research experience, Dr Aparicio joined the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Dentistry in 2021 as part of the FBA Fellows programme, promoted by the Bosch Aymerich Foundation, and since 2022, he is also full professor of the Faculty of Dentistry Research Area. Conrado Aparicio is also part of the Catalan Institute for Bioengineering (IBEC) as an associate researcher and is also a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
Expert in Biomaterials Science and Engineering, Dr Aparicio is listed in the Ranking of the World Scientists: World´s Top 2% Scientists, the international Stanford University ranking that reports the top 2% most cited researchers in the world according to their scientific career and field of expertise during 2021. Throughout his career as a researcher, Conrado Aparicio and his team have worked in multidisciplinary research on biomaterials and bioinspired interfaces to direct biological responses toward the repair or regeneration of bone and mucous membranes, as well as the prevention of bacterial infections in dental applications and maxillofacial and orthopaedic surgery.
UIC Barcelona’s new vice rector is also co-inventor of multiple patents and his team’s research projects have been funded by national agencies, foundations and companies, from the United States and the European Union, in interdisciplinary groups and cooperation between engineers, biologists and clinicians.
The professor of the Faculty of Dentistry Research Area now takes over this position from Dr Cristina Monforte, who continues as part of the Governing Board as vice rector of Academic Organisation and Teaching Staff at the University.
