The conference series "Exchanging Critical Opinions: Architecture and Other Perspectives", curated by Fredy Massad, opens

12 May marked the opening of "Exchanging Critical Opinions: Architecture and Other Perspectives", a conference series curated by Fredy Massad, a lecturer in Architecture Theory and Criticism at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, and organised by Roca Barcelona Gallery.

Each conference will feature an architect and an expert in another field whose work can provide interesting perspectives with a view to rethinking critical analysis in architecture. Together they will analyse the dimensions of critical thinking and the practice of criticism from their particular standpoints.

This conference series was organised in response to a context marked by the gradual trivialisation of architectural discourse. This context, essentially a form of media merchandising, has often become reduced to ductile, exhibitionistic rhetoric, devoid of all will or commitment to thought.

At the same time, architecture criticism has also begun to morph into a sort of constant approbation of this model, which, by legitimising it, has ultimately confirmed the process of trivialisation and negated and disparaged any attempt at critical analysis that has called this model into question, resulting in the proclamation that criticism is either dead or altogether unnecessary.

Participants in this conference series will include: Miguel Alonso del Val, Daniel Giralt-Miracle, Victoria Camps, Josep Lluís Mateo, Jordi Costa, Jorge Gorostiza, Rosa María Calaf and Santiago Fajardo.
