Consuls from different countries visit UIC Barcelona and exchange impressions with international students
Consuls from Brazil, the United States, Mexico and Romania visited the Barcelona Campus and the Sant Cugat Campus on 18 April, and met with students from the different countries they represent on the two campuses of the University, in which 106 nationalities coexist
UIC Barcelona received a visit on 18 April from the consuls of Brazil, the United States, Mexico and Romania, who travelled to the two campuses of the University in order to learn about the university project and participate in a meeting with students from the countries they represent.
The rector Alfonso Méndiz, and the President of the University Advisory Council (CAU), Francesc Homs, welcomed the consuls, accompanied by several members of the CAU, the director of Promotion and Admissions Raquel Peula, the director of International Relations, Noor Alchikh and the director of Corporate Development, Juan Pablo Garrido. The meeting was attended by Marcus Rector Toledo Silva, Deputy Consul General of Brazil, representing Consul General Pedro Henrique Lopes Borio; Katie Stana, Consul General of the United States; Adrián Michel, Consul of Politics and Cooperation of Mexico representing Consul General Claudia Pavlovich, and Sandra Liliana Gatejeanu-Gheorghe, Consul General of Romania.
During the welcome session, the rector thanked the diplomats for their visit, who were interested in the UIC Barcelona project and presented possible joint initiatives to continue promoting the internationalisation of the University. “At UIC Barcelona we are working on opening new delegations of alumni in the countries of origin of our students,” explained the rector, who attended the Alumni meeting held in Mexico last March.
The consuls visited the facilities of both campuses, Barcelona and Sant Cugat, and had a meeting with students from their respective countries who are studying a degree at the University, such as Business Administration, Architecture, Humanities, Dentistry or Biomedical Sciences. During the meeting with the students, the diplomats explained the different resources the consulate offers to students from their respective countries during their university years, such as legal and psychological counselling, entrepreneurship workshops or cultural activities, among others.
On the Sant Cugat Campus, the consuls visited the Comprehensive Centre for Advanced Simulation (CISA), the University Dental Clinic, as well as the various classrooms and laboratories, accompanied by Dr Josep Clotet, vice-rector of Planning and Quality; Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty of Dentistry and the manager of the University Dental Clinic, Jose Maria García Navas. At UIC Barcelona 30% of the undergraduate and postgraduate population are international students, and 106 different nationalities study between both campuses.
