Cultural April 2024 ends with the Carpes on campus

The University has once again enjoyed a month full of cultural proposals, with activities for the whole community ranging from the theatre, art exhibitions, literary encounters to a cultural getaway to the MNAC

On Wednesday 24 April at the Sant Cugat Campus and on Thursday 25 April at the Barcelona Campus, the on-campus Carpes were held for the second consecutive year . A celebration that was not dampened by the bad weather saw students and staff enjoy musical performances, a butifarrada, solidarity activities, football tables and board games.

In addition, the prizes were presented to the winners of the different competitions of the Cultural April and sports tournaments.

The photography contest this year was won by Emma Charlotte, bachelor’s degree student in Physiotherapy, with the photograph "Heart of Spring", and Miriam Martin, of the university master's degree in Law and Legal Practice, with the photograph "Purple Horizon".

The winners of the literary competition were Raquel Ibáñez, PhD student of Audiovisual Communication, in the category of short story with the work “Auriculares” (Earphones) and Miriam Sanchez, from the bachelor’s degree in Journalism, in the poetry category with the piece "Amor hiriente” (Hurtful Love).

As for this year’s rector’s tournaments, the winners were Palombe United, students of Physiotherapy, in the 5-a-side football category; Knights Templar, Business Administration students, in 7-a-side football; Pol Castellví and Joan Sevil, students of Business Administration, in men’s paddle tennis and Eva Cubas and Ola Godoy, Dentistry students in the women’s category.

A month full of culture

As every year, Cultural April has offered a wide variety of activities throughout the month to experience culture even more intensely at the University, with the help of Student Services and the cultural groups of UIC Barcelona.

Among the events that stands out is the play by the theatre group of Campus Barcelona, “This is Art?”, adapted by Quim Carreras; the performance of the choir of Campus Sant Cugat, with songs such as “Nothing Else Matters”; the cultural getaway to the MNAC with a guided tour with the teacher Marta Crispí and the literary meeting with the novel Lo que no se ve (Invisible), by Jesús Montiel.

Three exhibitions were also on display during the month: photographs of the contest “Colours of Springtime”; the best literary quotes of the literary contest presented by the students in the Cultural April competitions and “The Face” exhibition, with forty pieces by the two painting groups of the Sant Cugat campus.

Music also filled the University this month: for two days grand pianos from Maria Canals Barcelona Association were installed for all the members of the university community who wanted to share their musical talent.

Finally, during the day of Sant Jordi, solidarity was the priority, with roses hand crafted at the University and later delivered to the residents of elderly care homes by the ASTE Association.
