The Department of Nursing at UIC Barcelona opens up a healthcare consultancy service run by students in Ciutat Vella

The Department of Nursing at UIC Barcelona recently set up a healthcare consultancy service in the neighbourhood of Ciutat Vella in Barcelona run by UIC Barcelona students and supervised by a healthcare nurse who is also an academic tutor.  This consultancy, AIDIR Ciutat Vella (Unit of Nursing Care:  Teaching and Research) is located inside the Roure and Esperanza Foundation’s facilities and receives funding from Obra Social La Caixa. The Department of Nursing at UIC Barcelona promotes AIDIR Ciutat Vella as a corporate social responsibility project, due to its commitment to the good health of the people it helps. It was set up based on the intention of helping people, their families and carers to become more aware of self-care, as well as to promote a sense of social commitment among students, who are future nursing professionals. It also helps to guarantee professional excellence in the future in terms of knowledge, skills and leadership in healthcare.

AIDIR Ciutat Vella is the second healthcare consultancy that has been set up by the Department of Nursing at UIC Barcelona: in November 2011 the then Minister for Health Boi Ruiz inaugurated the first healthcare consultancy inside the Pere Virgili Healthcare Park. This new consultancy has added new areas such as maternal and infant health and mental and emotional health. The aim is also for it to become multidisciplinary, and to provide education in the field of oral health in cooperation with the university’s Faculty of Dentistry.
