The Design Museum of Barcelona inaugurates the exhibition "Barcelona Ceramics"

On 8 November, the Design Museum of Barcelona inaugurated the travelling exhibition "Barcelona Ceramics", curated by UIC Barcelona School of Architecture lecturers Dr Vicenç Sarrablo, Dr Jordi Roviras and Cristina Garcia-Castelao.

The exhibition features designs by students from the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, who were supervised by lecturers from the Barcelona Ceramics Chair, created thanks to support from the Spanish Association of Tile and Ceramic Pavement Manufacturers (ASCER). The twenty ceramic pieces included in the exhibit serve to commemorate the Chair's tenth anniversary.

The twenty prototypes are on display inside ceramic buckets manufactured by Ceràmica Cumella, a ceramics workshop run by Toni Cumella, and surrounded by a peripheral LED lighting system that was also designed by the renowned ceramicist. The travelling nature of the exhibition had an influence on the way each element was designed, with a view to making them easier to assemble and disassemble.

The exhibition, finalist in the 1st call for research proposals at the 13th Spanish Architecture and Urbanism Biennial (2016), was first unveiled at the seat of the Official Association of Architects of Catalonia (COAC) in Barcelona (2014) and subsequently travelled to the Valencia School of Architecture, the Cevisama Fair in Valencia (2015), Construmat in Barcelona (2015), the School of Architecture at the University of Granada (2016) and finally to the Design Museum of Barcelona.

The “Barcelona Ceramics” exhibition will remain on display until Friday 27 November 2016.
