The director of the Institute, Marta Trapero, publishes the book “Economía de la Salud"

Dr Marta Trapero, director of the Research Institute for Evaluation and Public Policies and lecturer in the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, recently published the book Economía de la Salud [Health Economics].

The book, published by Pirámide, was co-authored by lecturers Juan Oliva and Álvaro Hidalgo, from the University of Castilla-La Mancha; Beatriz González, from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; and Juan E. del Llano, director of the Gaspar Casal Foundation.

Health economics is the branch of economics that explores the production and distribution of health and healthcare. Issues analysed in the publication include health determinants, pricing in healthcare markets, waiting lists as a form of rationing, co-payments and the generic drug market.

It is divided into four parts, which makes it possible to learn the content independently and gradually, based on the level of depth the reader required. The book addresses the issues from an interdisciplinary perspective and includes numerous examples and ways in which they apply to Spain’s socioeconomic reality.

It is primarily intended for non-economists, as the aim is to help this discipline reach as many training programmes as possible in Spain and Latin America.
