Dr Carmen Mendoza Arroyo presents the ESARQ - School of Architecture at the annual EAAE Congress

Dr Carmen Mendoza Arroyo, assistant director of the ESARQ - School of Architecture at UIC Barcelona, recently took part in the annual congress and general assembly of the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) as representative of the Faculty Board. The congress, which took place in Bordeaux, France from 30 August to 2 September 2017, was entitled "Learning with the World".

In a series of workshops, the participants discussed the teaching and research activities organised outside of Europe, with particular focus on emerging countries. These practices are evidence of the new vision on international relations in which students and lecturers are committed to ensuring more responsible development in terms of local social and environmental contexts, in the spirit of reciprocity.

In one of the workshops, Dr Mendoza Arroyo talked about the unique nature of the academic curriculum at the ESARQ - School of Architecture, which integrates this vision by making cooperation, sustainability and accessibility compulsory subjects. She also manifested the importance of this social perspective in current world issues through the School’s Erasmus Mundus Master’s Degree in International Cooperation: Sustainable Emergency Architecture.

Founded in 1975, the European Association for Architectural Education aims to promote the quality of architectural and design education. It provides a forum for generating and exchanging information on aspects of architectural education and research. Today, the EAAE’s members include over 140 European and international schools of architecture. As of 2017, the ESARQ - School of Architecture is also part of the EAAE.
