Dr Cocho-Bermejo from the School of Architecture takes part in the Conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures
School of Architecture Lecturer Dr Ana Cocho-Bermejo spoke at the Conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures: Structural Membranes 2015, which took place in Barcelona between 19 and 21 October, about her research, Intelligent Deployable Multilayer Adaptive EFTE Membrane.
During the conference, Dr Cocho-Bermejo disclosed information about her research, which addresses how artificial intelligence and evolutionary algorithms may be applied to the performance of textile structure in emergency situations. Using an artificial neural network and a genetic algorithm, this multilayer system of membranes is able to understand its surroundings and climate and make decisions regarding formal and energetic optimisation in order to improve performance.
The conference was part of the European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS). It will also be supported by other European and global scientific organisations, including the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM).
The aim of Structural Membranes 2015 is to disseminate state-of-the-art research and technology for design, analysis, construction and maintenance of textile and inflatable structures. In summary, Structural Membranes 2015 aims to be a forum for discussing recent progress and identifying future research directions in the field of textile composites and inflatable structures.
