Dr Josep Clotet, vice-rector for Staff Management at UIC Barcelona, presides the first edition of Biology Night

Dr Josep Clotet, as president of the Catalan Biology Society, was, alongside Jaume Casals, rector at the Pompeu Fabra University, chosen to preside the event held on 7 July at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park.

The first edition of Biology Night was organised with a view to recognising and celebrating the progress made during the current year by biological science professionals and researchers from Catalan-speaking regions. During the event, the Catalan Biology Society handed out five awards that acknowledge the contributions made by both people and institutions to the development and dissemination of the biological sciences.

The Catalan Biology Society, presided by Dr Josep Clotet, is the largest and most active subsidiary of the Institute for Catalan Studies and a leading institution in the field of science. The idea behind Biology Night and its awards was for it to become a prominent annual meeting for the entire scientific community.
