The speech made by Montserrat Gas focused on “Libertad religiosa y Peacebuilding” [Religious Freedom and Peacebuilding]. In her speech she underlined the importance of religious confessions in building peace. 

For this role to be truly effective it is necessary for the State to maintain a neutral position which ensures non-instrumentation of the religious factor, with an active attitude that values and promotes the role of religious organisations.  She also underlined the need for the State to fully recognise the right of religious freedom, in both its personal and collective dimension, as well as the promotion of dialogue and the participation of religious groups in public life. 

The event brought to together university professors from the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain, as well as expert who work in the field of the public management of the religious factor, such as Miquel Àngel Ros, the Mayor of Lleida, and Puerto García Ortiz, Director of the Pluralism and Coexistence Foundation.

The activity was organised within the context of the activities undertaken as part of the research project entitled «Gestión de la diversidad religiosa y organización territorial» [Management of Religious Diversity and Territorial Organisation, financed by the Ministry for Education, in which Professor Montserrat Gas is participating.
