Dr Núria Clusellas and students Alejandro Estefanía and Beatriz Ripoll, awarded grants at the latest edition of the SEDO Conference

The aim of these acknowledgements is to help the grant-winners complete and further their postgraduate and predoctoral studies in the field of Orthodontics

Alejandro Estefanía and Beatriz Ripoll, students from the Master’s Degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, and Dr Núria Clusellas, the programme's coordinator and degree lecturer, were recently awarded three grants in recognition of their work at the 65th edition of the Spanish Society of Orthodontics (SEDO) Conference, held from 6-8 June in Granada.

Dr Núria Clusellas received a predoctoral fellowship that will enable her to develop her doctoral thesis, entitled “Estudio y valoración de los cambios tridimensionales en la cirugía segmentada del maxilar superior. Estabilidad y cambios en la torsión dentaría” [Study and assessment of three-dimensional changes in segmenteal upper jaw surgery: Stability and changes in dental torsion]. According to Dr Clusellas, “the study I’m currently performing with Dr Andreu Puigdollers is innovative, as it is without precedent. It focuses on observing patients who have undergone orthognathic surgery to correct malocclusion problems. This allows us to analyse the changes that occur and confirm whether or not they remain stable over time”.

In addition, Beatriz Ripoll received a SEDO Research Grant, which is awarded for the best research projects. “Receiving this grant is an extremely gratifying experience, as it represents a major boost towards me developing my research project”, explains Ripoll. “Knowing that, once finished, it will be published in the journal of the Spanish Society of Orthodontics is a great responsibility and challenge”.

Alejandro Estafanía, also a student in the Master's Degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, was awarded a Clinical Visit Grant, thanks to which he will be able to work in several leading clinics in the area of Orthodontics as of the upcoming academic year.
