The 15th edition of the Professional Excellence Awards organised by the Medical Association of Barcelona was held on 3 December. This year, 51 doctors and four care teams were given awards for career achievement on the basis of the values that define the profession: commitment, honesty, integrity and excellence. 

 

The recipients were nominated by their colleagues, who, by doing so, helped recognise the excellence and quality of their professional approach, as well as the leadership and teamwork of the prize-winning care teams. Awards were handed out in several different categories: Hospital Care; Primary Care; Other Areas of Healthcare; Biomedical Research; Medical Education and Humanities; Cooperation and Management; and Care Teams. 

 

This year, this prestigious distinction was given to three lecturers from UIC Barcelona: Dr Xavier Corbella, vice-dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and director of the Hestia Chair, in the Hospital Care category; Dr Núria Vallcorba, a lecturer in the Faculty of Dentistry, in the Other Areas of Healthcare category; and Dr Montserrat Domènech, a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, who took home a care team award as head of the Oncology Service at the Althaia Foundation.
