EFTI Art Photo BCN awards lecturer Aitor Estévez a study grant for "Cronotopos"

On 29 May, architect and photographer Aitor Estévez, lecturer in the subject Analysis of Forms at UIC Barcelona's School of Architecture, received an EFTI study grant worth €1,500 for his work "Cronotopos".

In the words of Aitor Estévez, "'Cronotopos' is a personal project that seeks to construct a refuge in time, in photography and in architecture; in the forgotten architectures that have been eliminated from the present. It is a voluntary withdrawal from our perfectly imperfect nature as humans, beyond the hype, beyond the media saturation of complacent images fit for consumption, in a time of instability and uncertainty. We reject the perfect, ideal, infinite, unrealistic and non-existent future tense and communicate in the imperfect tense.

It is a collection of photographs that does not depict a place in time, but rather time in a place. It traps time and allows it to be analysed on a longer wavelength; an amplified examination of our own demise. We can then try and find a kind of hidden truth among the ruins. In 'Cronotopos', the architecture is ultimately devoured by time and nature".

The grant was awarded by the EFTI International Centre of Photography and Cinema, which collaborates with Art Photo BCN, a specialised trade fair that aims to introduce emerging photographers to the general public, which took place between 27 and 29 May 2016 in Barcelona.
