El camino más largo para volver a casa directed by Professor Sergi Pérez has won the Gaudi Award for Best Film

El camino más largo para volver a casa directed by the Profesor of the Bachelor's degree in Audiovisual Communication at UIC Barcelona, Sergi Pérez, won the Gaudí Award for Best Film.  

The VIII edition of the Gaudí awards was held on Sunday 31 January in the Auditorio Fórum-CCIB in a show broadcast by Catalan Television (TV3) and presented by the actress Rossy de Palma.

The first full-length film by Sergi Pérez was nominated for five prize categories, Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Script and Best Film Editing. 

El camino más largo para volver a casa was funded by the Verkami crowdfunding platform and produced by Niu d’Indi. Despite the financial difficulties in terms of the filming costs, the final result is brilliant.  The film was the only Spanish one presented at the Seville European Cinema Festival 2014 and selected for the International Auteur Cinema Festival in Barcelona (D'A), the Tarragona International Film Festival (REC), the 18th edition of the Malaga Festival (in the Focus Zonazine section) and the Crossing Europe Film Festival in Linz.

In 2015, this film, directed by Sergi Pérez, received a Pepón Coromina, Award, awarded by the Catalan Cinema Academy; a Premio Joven Award, at the Abycine Festival (2015);  the Best Director and Best Actor Awards at the Manchester Film Festival (2015); the Best Director and Best Actor Awards at the Islantilla Festival (2015);  the Award for the Best Feature Film and Best Actor at the International Festival of Cinema in Catalan and the Award for the Best Feature Film at the Festival de Cine Pequeño in Aspe, Alicante.

The commercial premiere of the film took place on Friday 29 May 2015 in Salas Zumzeig, Cines Boliche, Cines Balmes and in Girona, at the Cine Truffaut.

Sergi Pérez is now preparing for his second film and this time he will receive backing from Isabel Coixet's production company.

About Sergi Pérez:

Sergi Pérez has a degree in Fina Arts and is an ESCAC graduate. He specialised in Film Directing for his final degree project, entitled El buen aviador (2005), which was selected for festivals such as the San Sebastián Film festival. In 2007 he premiered Vestido Nuevo, and he has received awards frin festivals such as the Malaga Film festival or the Certamen de Soria, the SGAE's Versión Española Award and an Oscar nomination under the film school category.

He has filmed multiple videoclips for groups such as Manel, Mishima and Joan Dausà, and has received various best video clip awards from Cinemad and Rockdelux. His work in advertising also been recognised via a FIAP Sol de Plata Award and he was also selected for the Young Talent Award in Cannes in 2008.

 

Since 2006 he has been teaching on the Degree and Master's degree programmes at ESCAC, and since 2012 on the Bachelor's Degree in Audiovisual Communication at UIC Barcelona.
