The ESARQ - School of Architecture's Vertical Workshop set to raise exhibition stands

On Monday 4 September, the ESARQ - School of Architecture at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona) will open the 2017-2018 academic year with the 21st edition of the Vertical Workshop. From 4 to 13 September, under the title “Exhibition spaces", the entire school plans to raise five display units.

Under the title “Exhibition spaces”, the latest edition of the Vertical Workshop will focus on designing exhibition stands, with emphasis on the structure or display element. This year’s objective is to construct flexible, adaptable structures capable of adopting distinct forms or configurations in order to accommodate works of different natures or mediums.

Over the course of approximately ten days, from 4 to 13 September, all students from years two through five will divide into teams and set to building 5 transportable, easy to assemble and disassemble exhibitions stands capable of having several “lives”, the first of which will be in the Vertical Workshop itself.

Their other lives will depend on the synergies and agreements established with institutions or artistic collectives interested in using these units for display purposes. The five models may, in future lives, be used together as part of a large exhibition, or split from the group and lead fully independent lives in smaller-format settings.

The proposals will be built on September 12 at the Pati d’Escultures in the CCCB from 9 am to 8 pm and will be presented for the jury's assessment on September 13.

This edition has been organised by several of the School’s lecturers and alumni: Manuel Arenas, María José Díaz, Aitor Estévez, Marta Delgado and Sergi Viñal.
