On 3 March, the cities of Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs will host the fifth edition of the UNIRUN, the University Race. The event is promoted by all 12 Catalan universities and the ECU (Catalan University Sport), with support from the Secretariat-General of Sport and the city councils of Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs. It is sponsored by Adidas and organised by Gaudium Sports.
The new edition of the UNIRUN was presented yesterday at the Old Estrella Damm Brewery, in an event featuring Dr Joan Elías, the honourable rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Callau, mayor of Sant Adrià de Besòs, Xavier Olivella, manager of the Barcelona Sports Institute and Antoni Reig, director-general of the Catalan Council for Sport.
This year, the UNIRUN is collaborating with the Support Program of the University of Barcelona for refugees and people from conflict areas.This programme seeks to develop the human rights perspective and is coordinated by the UB Solidarity Foundation, the University of Barcelona’s organisation for cooperation and solidarity. The patron of the fifth UNIRUN is Zaki Jan Rezaee, a programme participant. He is currently completing a Bachelor’s Degree in International Economics in the Faculty of Economics at the UB.
