Former player and coach Xesco Espar delivers the keynote speech at the opening event for this year’s sports season

Yesterday evening saw the presentation of the members of the university’s official teams, the participants in this year’s UIC Barcelona Champions League and the members of the running group, thus inaugurating the 2017-2018 sports season at UIC Barcelona.

The event that marked the beginning of the sports season began with a few words from the vice-rector for the University Community, Dr Belén Zárate. Dr Zárate spoke about the importance of sport as a means of acquiring and experiencing the UIC Barcelona values. Afterwards, Ernest Martínez, head of the service, revisited last year’s achievements and talked about what’s new for this season.

This year, the event’s keynote speaker was Xesco Espar, a former handball player and coach for FC Barcelona. In his speech, Espar spoke to the attendees about performance, targets and motivation; lessons applicable to both sports and their studies.

The event was attended by close to one-hundred students, who took careful note of Xesco Espar’s advice.
